Jai Lucas has (FINALLY!) made his decision and he is headed to Florida. Not a huge shocker here since it was always UK or Florida. Beas Hamga has also pulled the trigger and he is headed out West, sucker. (He wants to be a cowboy, baby.) To be honest, I was a little surprised by this decision.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t leave BCG with too many options for next year. The big name left for next year is of course, Patrick Patterson. Well, there is also Michael Sanchez I suppose. Coach Gillispie had been trying to get him for next year instead of going to prep school. Now it’s time to wait and see what Patterson decides.
I’m kinda upset about the Hamga decision too. I mean, I really wanted to make up nicknames that rhymed with ‘Beas’ and ‘Hamga’. We really didn’t need Lucas, they’ll always be more and better versions of him, but a low post guy we really needed. I think the Myspace saga forced Hamga into an early decision.
Seems Michael Sanchez has also found other digs more inviting.

im seein early on that billy g may not have the ability to seal the deal…sanchez is not a loss at all but how do we lose the guy…and we lost him to a conference foe…sorry guys its just a lil frustrating to watch mick cronin step in a cincy and snag guys like jason henry and anthony mclain for 07 and yancy gates and darnell wilks for 08 in a short period of time…im starting to question the hiring i mean i dont know whats worse not going after big names cuz youll lose out anyway like tubby or goin after them, build the excitement and lose out…i may have to start paying more attention to cincy and get me some of that skyline chili!
Screw them bastards they don’t want to come to the bluegrass then they don’t belong here we want people that want to play Kentucky basketball thats going to have heart and passion for Kentucky.

Are you kidding? BCG hasn’t even coached a game yet and you are starting to question the hire? So we hire a coach late in the recruiting game and expect him to sign every top prospect left unsigned. This is why we UK fans get beat down in the national media and on all of the message boards. A handful of fans decide that the new coach shouldn’t have been hired or should be fired before he has a chance to prove himself.
How big of a UK fan can you be when you are thinking of defecting to Cincy just because we lost a couple of recruits when the coach was basically thrown into his role and having to make up ground on other schools that have been recruiting these players from day one?
No true CAT fan would even think of doing something like that, let alone put it in writing. A TRUE fan sticks with their team through thick and thin, ups and downs, etc.
Here’s a novel idea. Try supporting your team AND their coach.

I like that, Big fing deal that we didn’t get them. Lucas is gone after 1 year, Hamaga is gone after 1 year, We lost Sanchez too pelphrey and I wish him all the luck in the world. I will be rooting for him all but once or twice a year. He will be a good coach. Lets go and recruit and sign a couple of big men that are only 2 or 3 stars and concentrate on Stevenson and his progress and Jared carter is getting bigger and better and they will probably both be around for 4 years. BCG is going to be fine. And if you want to be a bearcats fan then we are not gong to miss you
Lucas, by the assessment of Matt Jones at KSR and by other columns I read, was considered to be a great 4-year guard in college, but will have to raise his game considerably in order to attract the attention of the NBA before his senior year.
Billy Clyde has been on the job TWO MONTHS and has already landed two HS All-Americans. Seems like a pretty successful two months to me.
